Wow. It has been awhile. We have neglected you for months and months– please forgive us. A lot has happened in that time, and I’ll do my best to summarize it here.
Since we last had a chat, Forrest graduated with his PhD in chemical engineering from Yale! He now prefers to be called Dr. Forrest; however, since his head is already close to being too big for his bike helmet (how California- more about that in a moment), I generally refuse.
Forrest has ALSO started a new job in Livermore, California. Wine country- I’m not complaining! He now bikes to work (hence the helmet), misses the rain, and eats a lot more Mexican food. I’ll leave it at that and let him elaborate in his own post.
Melissa (that’s me!) is currently in Rome (Italy, not Georgia) for dissertation research. I will be here for the next three months, spending lots of time in libraries, museums, and archives. When I am not reading and writing, I will be: practicing my Italian, eating gelato (I recently tried dark chocolate with red wine and ricotta, fig, and almond- oh my!), living my own version of Audrey Hepburn’s Roman Holiday (unfortunately solo– where’s my dashing co-star when I need him? That’s right, CA!), and whipping up versions of my favorite Roman foods in a teeny-tiny kitchen that includes a mini refrigerator and a two-burner electric cooktop. That’s right, no oven! So Forrest will have to take over the baking apron (and my mixer) for the next couple of months.
So our blog tagline is both changing and staying the same. Whenever I can figure out how the heck I made that first blog logo, I’ll be sure to update it! We now have 6 degrees between us (4 for Forrest, only 2 for me… I guess I’m a slacker), but we are again in two different cities- new cities for the both of us. And now, instead of being a 4 hour drive apart, we have a 9 hour time difference. We have to fill the void somehow- so why not by sharing some new, delicious recipes with our favorite people? I’ve already got one up my sleeve…
